So, what is the Bihar Bhumi Survey?
The Bihar Bhumi Survey is a government project aimed at recording accurate land data across the state. Under this program, officials measure and document land ownership, boundaries, and details about landowners. This helps prevent disagreements about who owns the land and makes it simpler for people to get government services related to their land.
The survey is happening under the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Act, 2011. This law makes sure that once the survey is done in a village, the information is officially shared and becomes a legal document.
Why is the Survey Important?
Many people in Bihar depend on farming for their income. For this, having clear land records is very important. If the land records are not complete or correct, it can cause problems like arguments between neighbors or issues with selling or passing on land. This survey aims to fix these problems by providing accurate records for everyone.
List of Villages to Be Notified Soon
The state government will soon notify the names of villages where the survey work is finished. According to J. Priyadarshini, Director of Land Records and Measurements, officials from 20 districts have been asked to provide details of these villages. The list will include information such as:
Name of the village
District and block
Number of landowners (called raiyats)
Number of land parcels (khesras)
Date when the land records were published
Meeting to Review Progress
A review meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar Singh. Other senior officials, including Secretary Jay Singh, will also attend. During this meeting, officers will present reports about their respective districts.
The government has instructed the settlement officers from these districts to prepare reports and be present at the meeting. They were also asked to send the data via email by Tuesday evening.

The survey covers 20 districts in its first phase. These include:
1. Banka

Final Publication of Records
The government has already completed the final publication of land records in these areas. Settlement officers have been directed to ensure that all necessary information is ready for submission during the meeting.
The notification of these villages will bring significant benefits to residents. Landowners will have access to accurate records, which can be used for legal, financial, and personal purposes.
How Will This Help Landowners?
1. Avoid Disputes: With clear records, people will know exactly who owns which piece of land. This reduces the chances of conflicts over ownership.
2. Ease of Transactions: Selling or buying land will become simpler because potential buyers will trust government-certified records.
3. Access to Government Services: Landowners can easily apply for loans, subsidies, or other benefits using their updated records.
4. Transparency: The process ensures that all details are recorded in a transparent and accountable manner.
What’s Next?
Once the government notifies the names of these villages, it will be a big step toward modernizing land records in Bihar. Other districts and villages will also undergo the same process in the coming phases.
A Big Relief for Landowners
Earlier, there were delays and confusion in land-related matters, causing stress for people. But now, the government is determined to bring transparency and relief. In fact, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has emphasized that completing this survey is a top priority.
